Mardi Gras King Cakes 2018

With Mardi Gras Day a week away, I’m back at it with the King Cakes I’ll be bringing along with me all Mardi Gras Long. Whether it’s bringing them to Mardi Gras parties, birthday parties, or work events, or to the parade route, these are my favorite Mardi Gras King Cakes this year.

Bywater Bakery — 3624 Dauphine St. is one of the newest to the list and has recently been the one to really take me to the moon. With nearly a dozen flavors available, it’s their traditional “Carnival King Cake” variation that put me over the edge. I’m a fool for this one for sure and it’s a great combination of density, sweetness, and most importantly gooey. Great color and texture, and it’s totally worth the trip from anywhere.

Antoine’s Famous Cakes — 3030 Severn Ave in Metairie + 1300 Stumpf Blvd in Gretna. Antoine’s is a perennial favorite here at iHeartnola.com. It’s absolutely my go to King Cake and is really hard to beat. It’s one of my all-time favorites and is the perfect combination of density and sweetness. If I was left along with their traditional style King Cake, I would eat the whole damn thing. It’s just that good. They are also the creators of the “Queen Cake” which is about as decadent as it gets.

Chez Pierre — 3208 Clearview Pkwy, Metairie, LA 70006 + 2901 David Dr, Metairie, LA 70003 + Inside LAKESIDE MALL in the Food court @Fairchild location

Chez Pierre’s icing is the best in the city, IMHO. It’s whipped and airy and is evenly applied. I know that sounds so scientific, but man it’s really perfect. There’s nothing worse than biting into a piece of king cake and the slice is all icing. You won’t get that with Chez Pierre. It’s also one of the freshest King Cakes you can get around town. I’m not sure if they ever stop making them. They also have several other Nola inspired flavors : chantilly, banana foster and tiramisu.
